I create artwork inspired by my inner life using natural paints and inks I make from my outer landscape.
For many years I felt compelled to travel in search of something unknown to me at the time. When I look back I see the gentle unfolding of my path. In Portugal I collected my first pigment from the crumbling cliffs, in India pomegranate skins stained my hands yellow and in morocco I watched in amazement as men waded waste deep in multi coloured dye vats. All this time I was slowing seeing the world of colour open up before my eyes and was coming closer to my own true nature. A love of foraging lead me down a path of experimentation and co-creation with plants. I began making natural paints and inks using rocks, roots, bark, leaves, flower, berries, nuts, seeds, whatever caught my attention. Nature became my teacher. This fusing of two of my passions in life, connecting to nature, and creating art, felt like magic to me. Foraged pieces of knowledge gathered from here and there are now fitting together. What seemed like an endless search has finally brought me full circle back to myself. Now I have found what I wish to pursue and where I belong I no longer feel the need to travel outwardly into the world, but instead continue the search inwards deepening my relationship with the plant kingdom, with myself and others.
